Tracey Cunningham's Favorite Spring Color Formulas

This spring, everything will be turning to gold if the New York Fashion Week runways have anything to say about it. Fashionista clients everywhere will be stocking up on shiny metallic jewelry, edgy lamé mini-dresses and glittering brocade jackets, and that’s why Tracey Cunningham, Redken Creative Consultant for Color, says the hottest haircolor trend for the season will certainly follow suit. “You can incorporate a range of gold tones in your client’s color, whether she’s a brunette, blonde or redhead,” she says. Here’s how you can reinvent the metallic trend in the salon.

Spring/Summer 2011 Trend: Brunettes
“The beautiful chestnut brown seen on Jennifer Lopez will be huge in the spring and summer months,” says Tracey. “A great base with shine and vitality and some beautiful light highlights close to the face create an amazing glow.” Also, don’t forget about last summer’s ombré trend. According to Tracey, it’s not going away any time soon. “Ombré is a great way to transition brunettes into the summer months. The gradation of color as it gets lighter towards the ends keeps brunettes looking fresh and bright,” she adds.
Try this formula from Redken’s Gold Rush color shades:
Base Color:
1 oz. 7Av Color Fusion + 1 oz. 4Gb Color Fusion + 2 oz. 20 vol. Pro-Oxide Cream Developer
Highlights: Blonde Icing Power Lift + 20 vol. Blonde Icing Crème Developer (1:2 Ratio)
Glaze: 1 oz. 09G Butter Cream Shades EQ + 1 oz. 07G Saffron Shades EQ + 2 oz. SEQ Processing Solution

Spring/Summer 2011 Trend: Redheads
“Moving into spring, redheads will become stronger and more vibrant,” Tracey says, who cites Emma Stone as her seasonal inspiration. “Emma has played with different shades of red, but her strong base of deep, almost burgundy color gives her that extra sass and personality. Redheads will definitely trend in this direction!”
Try this red formula for spring:
Base color:
1 oz. 5Gg Color Fusion + 1 oz. 5Gb Color Fusion + 2 oz. 20 vol. Pro-Oxide Cream Developer
Glaze: 1 oz. Crystal Clear + 1 oz. 05G Caramel Shades EQ + 2 oz. SEQ Processing Solution

Spring/Summer 2011 Trend: Blondes
“As we move into spring and summer, the ombré style will stay extremely prevalent with blondes,” Tracey predicts. “Like with Drew Barrymore’s look, having a root area that fades into blonde creates a natural summer ‘at-the-beach’ feel.”
Give this spring formula a try on your blonde clients:
Base Color:
1 oz. 7Av + 1 oz. 7Gb Color Fusion + 2 oz. 20 vol. Pro-Oxide Cream Developer
Highlights: Blonde Icing Power Lift + 20 vol. Blonde Icing Crème Developer (1:1 Ratio)
Glaze: 1 oz. Crystal Clear + 1 oz. 09RB Blush Shades EQ + 2 oz. SEQ Processing Solution
