Three Trend-Driven New Looks
In 2004, Intercoiffure appointed internationally noted hairstylist Frederic Fekkai as Fashion Director. In this capacity, he offers trend direction to members,
reaffirming the organization's fashion leadership. Here's your
chance to check out three of Frederic's newest looks created for Intercoiffure's Direction 2005.
MANE IDEA: This coppery red shade is very directional right now. To boost the shine and bring out the richest tones, I applied a gloss. As for the cut,

I angled it to remove a bit of the weight. The bangs add glamour, while still giving the overall look a hip, young edge.

TAKE-AWAY TIP: All three of these looks are what I consider "groomed" - which is definitely the top trend right now. To be fashionable, your clients should look and feel polished and pulled

-together. But try to avoid going too classic. Even a slightly messy look is fine - as long as it's done with elegance and style.
MANE IDEA: This is a modern shag - while it's pretty short in the back, the front has length. To strike the right balance, I layered

from the top of the crown and kept the sides long. That way it retains femininity and sexiness.

TAKE-AWAY TIP: Although many hair stylists might be tempted to use a razor to achieve this look, I don't generally recommend

it. In my opinion, razoring tends to thin the hair out too much. And to me, thick, strong hair is really beautiful.
MANE IDEA: This model actually came for color, but I used the opportunity to angle the front of her hair to alleviate some of the heaviness. For the color,
I knew I wanted to add contrast. So I opted for a mix of lowlights and white gold highlights. In small doses, the white gold is great. It adds a lot of dimension.

TAKE-AWAY TIP: When shooting studio images for press kits or other purposes, try to keep the clothes as tastefully simple as possible. For this shoot, I worked with a clothing stylist whose
taste I trust. She's current and aware, but not overly trendy. Always remember that while the total image should be strong, the hair should be the main focus.

Intercoiffure USA/Canada has built its growth strategy on "the three F's - fashion, finance and fellowship". Integral to this are the business educational programs which are the cornerstone of Intercoiffure's philosophy including an annual financial symposium addressing salon promotions, client services, motivation facilitators and technical assistance on new trends. Additionally members are encouraged to interact with their counterparts in other countries, exchanging ideas and potentially building a resource bank of hair creativity from which all members can draw. Ultimately, the aim of the organization is towards developing an increasingly high fashion profile for the entire salon industry.
