Eve- A Celebration of Women in Beauty

As you may or may not know, behindthechair.com is run by a talented team that has one major characteristic in common- we are ALL women. So when we heard that Aveda distribution partners, Neill Corporation and The Salon People, were putting together an all women’s hair show, we knew it was right up our alley. The first show of its kind, Eve- A Celebration of Women in Beauty, paid tribute to generations of talented women in the beauty industry.

“This is a landmark event for us and for Aveda,” Debra Neill, CEO of Neill Corporation said. “Women have been contributing to the beauty industry for years- now it’s time to recognize their work in this industry.”

Our BTC team flew down to the historic Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami on April 23-24, 2006 (with our mobile BTC bookstore in tow) to support many of the most iconic female artists in the business: Antoinette Beenders, Vivienne MacKinder, Rita Rusk, Marjorie Clarke, Gina Derry, Jen Hughes, Leslie Munsell, Dylan Sit and Lisa Vann.

On stage, these women demonstrated techniques ranging from razor cuts to classic curls to an audience of almost 2,000 beauty industry professionals. Between the cutting and styling, however, was the real education. The artists inspired the audience to never doubt their power and influence as women.

Vivienne Mackinder, hairdressing legend and four time NAHA winner, urged the audience to face their insecurities and doubts. “Feel the fear and do it anyway,” she said.

For those who have never been to South Beach, this is truly the city that never sleeps- except during the day (napping by the pool next to a daiquiri is quite popular).  The perfect setting for the woman who works hard and plays hard too, Eve- A Celebration of Women in Beauty took Miami by storm, leaving her a little wiser, a little more accepting, and lot more appreciative of women in the beauty industry.

The Neill Corporation will present another show, Serious Business, on June 11-12, 2006 in New Orleans. Serious Business will bring together some of the Industry’s brightest stars to share secrets of success, how they achieved their dreams and the tools to help and inspire others.
