2006 Stylist Choice Awards

The 500,000 salon pro visitors who log on monthly to behindthechair.com, the beauty industry’s largest online community for licensed professionals, are the experts in identifying the “best of the best”… also known as the winners of the 2006 Stylist Choice Awards.  To honor those chosen by our membership, behindthechair.com threw the party of the year at Hard Rock LIVE!  in Orlando, Florida.  Over 2,500 of the industry’s finest including 45 of the leading platform artists and educators, 30 manufacturers and more than 2,000 hairdressers gathered to celebrate 37 winners in the people’s choice awards for the salon industry.

The show included many surprises such as Vidal Sassoon, the man, as presenter for Platform Artist of the Year, BTC-TV video outtake clips from behindthechair.com’s new online video streaming network launching in September, plus, Mary Rector-Gable, Founder of behindthechair.com playing a news anchor during the show, providing a Saturday Night Live style newscast of industry events.  And when Gordon Miller discussed Katrina donations noting that NCA was $40,000 short of a million dollars, Jim Markham immediately pledged the needed funds.

Seen on the scene… a virtual "Who's Who" of beauty industry artists and leaders.  Presenters included: Robert Cromeans, James Morrison, Michael O’Rourke, Beth Minardi, Vivienne Mackinder, Suzanne Sturm, Ruth Roche, Sam Brocato, David Wagner, Shauky Gulamani, Winn Claybaugh, Michael DeVellis, Kevin Givens, Nicholas French, Van Council, Scott Cole, Linda Yodice, Heather Wenman, Angus Mitchell, Martin Parsons, Sandra Yu, Andrew Bartfield, John Donato, Patrick McIvor, Dwight Miller, Teri Donnelly, Jim Markham, Phillip Wilson, Martyn Duff, Damien Carney, Dev Rice, Jim Morrison, Sue Pemberton, Angelia Polsinelli, Michael Shaun Corby, Trent Day, Jamie Carroll, Symons. Marco Passaniti, Tommy Tusa, and Stephanie Kocielski.

And the winners are…..when you’re HOT you’re HOT! For six consecutive years, Redken Fifth Avenue has been awarded Best Overall Professional Products Company and Favorite Demi-Permanent Color Line for Shades EQ while Robert Cromeans, Artistic Director of John Paul Mitchell Systems was named Favorite Platform Artist and was presented his award by none other than Vidal Sassoon himself through a pre-recorded video taping. In total, Redken claimed a phenomenal 7 Stylist Choice Awards this year including Blonde Glam for New Shampoo or Conditioner, Color Extend for New Product for Color, Color Enhancement or Color Protection, Color Fusion for Permanent Color, Favorite Manufacturer-Sponsored Event for Redken Symposium and Favorite Advanced Academy for the Redken Exchange.  TIGI won for New Styling Product- S-factor Smoothing Lusterizer, plus 3 Bed Head products- Styling Gel, Lotion or Mousse- Bed Head Small Talk, Specialty Styling- Bed Head Manipulator, and Professional Make-up Line- Bed Head.  And Paul Mitchell snagged three additional SCAs for Shampoo- Super Skinny Shampoo, Volumizing- Extra Body Daily Boost and Non-Chemical Straightening Product – Super Skinny. Additional companies taking the award for a record sixth time included Joico for Favorite Deep or Restorative Conditioner for K-PAK, and OPI for Favorite Nail Polish.

Farouk Systems captured our members’ hearts for the Favorite Product You Simply Can’t Live Without – Biosilk Silk Therapy plus took awards for both Blow Dryer and Flat Iron for CHI while PureOlogy won for Color Protecting Product- Hydrate and Conditioner- HydrateCondition.

Other awards went to a broad cross-section of manufacturers with first time winners like Hikari winning Favorite Shears, and Marilyn for Favorite Brush; Mizani was named Favorite Multi-Cultural Company; Takara Belmont won for Favorite Furniture/Equipment Company; ISO Options was named Favorite Perm; Kenra’s Volume Spray 25 took the Hair Spray nod; Matrix claimed victory for Favorite Chemical Straightening Product- Opti-smooth; and American Crew won for Men’s Product Line.  Click here for the complete list of winners.

Adding to the SCA festivities, the winners of both the Sexy Hair's Show-Off contest and Takara Belmont's $25,000 Makeover were presented during the evening.
