How-To: Glamorous French Twist

The much-anticipated season six of American Horror Story premiered this week, and although it finally answered some questions about this season’s theme, one question remains: Where’s Lady Gaga?! So to pay homage to The Countess, season five’s vampire vixen with killer style, we turned to Hair Salon M Owner Mustafa Avci for some tips on how to get her signature look. Try this ultra-fashionable French twist, inspired by The Countess, for your clients who are looking to let out their inner glam goddess.

HOW-TO STEPS

    1

Prep hair with Sebastian Volupt Spray. Create a deep side part, isolate the front section and clip it away. Backcomb the undersides of every section of the remaining hair to create volume.

Direct one side of the hair toward the back and pin it just off-center with a bobby pin, placing the pin vertically to hold the section in place.

Using both hands, direct the hair from the other side toward the back to meet the pin. Smoothing the section continuously, begin rolling it toward the center. Start at the top and work down toward the nape.

While holding the roll in place with one hand, insert bobby pins along the length of the twist. “Start at the bottom,” advises Mustafa, “to catch the shorter pieces that tend to slip out.”

Continue pinning until the twist is secure. Release the front and backcomb this section.

Gently loop the section into the waved shape. Secure it to the back section. Finish with Sebastian Shaper Fierce.
