Sam Villa “Cloud Set” Technique

Capturing an image in black and white reveals its truest form.  The purity of light against dark can be dramatic and highlight nuances that are lost in color. Sam Villa was inspired by vintage images, styles and techniques, and combined modern tools and concepts to create this look. “Baroque weaving spawned the idea of a rick rack technique I call ‘Cloud Set,’” says Sam. “I based this technique on an old Pin Set, but instead of wrapping hair around a pin, I use string to create a cloudy texture reminiscent of cotton candy.”
