Hello Everyone—

The 2009 Stylist Choice Awards were held last weekend and the entire evening was a blast. We had our first-ever Hall of Fame presentations from eight- 5-time winners like TIGI, Wella, Paul Mitchell, Farouk, Joico, Mizani and more. There was also a moving tribute to the late Guy Mascolo and some hilarious moments as the night went on and our presenters “loosened up.” But the best part of the entire evening for me was when I presented the Hairdressers Unlocking Hope Award to Michelle Kelly. Those of you who read Michelle’s story in behindthechair.com On Paper know that she has overcome unimaginable adversity, including abuse and homelessness, and is now working hard and attending cosmetology school to build a better life for herself and her beautiful daughters. Not only did Michelle receive this award (and spent the weekend with her girls at Disney World courtesy of BTC) but we also decided to give the entire Paul Mitchell School sponsorship dollars to Michelle as well. In an email, Michelle wrote, “Everything was left behind last weekend, and my girls got to see that there are some very wonderful people outside our circle of abuse. We now know that the possibilities are endless.” We can’t wait to see Michelle identify and achieve those possibilities, and we are proud to be have made such a profoud difference in three young women’s lives! We love you Michelle, Courtney and KK! (And, KK, I love that you overcame your fears and rode The Hulk!)

2009 STYLIST CHOICE AWARDS: ONE HELLUVA NIGHT
It was the ninth year for BTC’s Stylist Choice Awards and the event just keeps getting bigger. This year, BTC members chose their favorites in more than 30 categories and VIPs from every winning company were on hand to claim their prizes.
