Lighten
With Care
Lightening dark hair doesn’t happen in one session, believes
Beth Minardi. Say, for example, your color-treated,
Level 2 client requests a Level 6. Start by lightening the midshafts
and ends of various strands with foil containing lightener, particularly
around the face and right above the ears. You may only be able to
lighten to the brassy orange/brown stage, but you can then shampoo
and condition the hair and glaze with a demi-permanent formula of
8GN + 9N which will softly drab the hair without darkening. The client
should return in five-to-seven weeks for the same service. As time
goes on, the color will transform to a lighter shade.
