Dear Darcy: Our receptionist often gets short with clients
on the phone!—Cringing
Dear Cringing: You’re right to be embarrassed—whenever
someone is speaking with a customer, she is your salon’s representative.
So it should be strict policy that whoever picks up the call should
follow the guidelines of proper phone etiquette—answer with
your salon’s preferred greeting, be polite and responsive and
give the caller your full attention. If it’s necessary to put
the caller on hold, ask permission, and if the wait time becomes long,
ask if they prefer to hold, leave a message or call back.
