On Paper Cover How-To
Cover artist Nick Arrojo cut this model’s
relaxed strands into a halo shape, then layered them to remove
internal bulk. “The layering is important, says Nick.
“Without it, you’ll wind up with a big, solid pudding
bowl!” To style, he applied thermal protector and frizz
fighter; blow dried using a wrapping technique and no elevation;
then flat ironed. In hard-to-control short areas, like around
the hairline, he dried strands with a comb for more control.
A final touch of styling wax produced soft texture and separation.
