Blonde
to Brown
For tintbacks, Beth Minardi’s first choice
is a heavy lowlighting technique. But if the client demands
an all-over brown result, Minardi recommends a triple glaze
using demi-permanent color. First she transforms the blonde
to an orange/tan by mixing a light auburn shade with a light,
warm gold blonde shade. After processing, she rinses the hair,
dries it, and applies a red-orange glazing solution. She processes
once more, rinses and dries the hair, then applies a final brown
glazing shade. “I never use permanent hair color to perform
a tintback,” says Minardi. “Why use something that
has the ability to lift color when we require 100% deposit?”
