Plan Ahead

When doing a double process blonde, says haircolor expert and author David Velasco, decide in advance which toner shade you will use. That’s because your initial bleach-out must be the right shade for your toner. “For example,” says David, “if there is too much gold left in the hair after the bleach-out, and the toner is a blue-based pastel toner, the gold in the hair and the blue in the toner will create green. And, if the hair is bleached to almost white, the blue toner will turn the hair blue.” So for double-process success, map out your bleach-out and toner strategies before you start to color.
