American
Balayage
For summer blonding, try Beth Minardi’s American
Balayage technique. Using vertically-folded, 7 x 14-inch
strips of “potato foil,” lay sections of hair on
the bottom half of the foil, apply lightener and close the top
half over the bottom, without folding the foil. Press the formula
into the hair for better penetration and clip it to secure.
“Take wide, thick sections,” she says, “and
apply the product to the midshaft and ends. As you work, mix
up the application—place the color closer to the root
on some sections, further away on others, make a 'v', etc. Really
consider each section and remember that you’re creating
shape with your color.”
