Cool Off

A home haircolor attempt has produced a too-warm hue and your client wants to cool off. What do you do? Former NAHA Color Finalist Dorissa Cerven says you have two options. First, you can get out your color wheel, study the opposites and formulate a neutralizing the hue. If the unwanted color is copper red, use a blue-based brown. If it’s red, create a green-based color. Or, you can simply cover the red by going one full shade darker. If the client doesn’t want to go darker, tell her to come back in a month. Her color will have faded and you can cover it up without feeling too dark.
