So Happy Together
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s (“GLAAD”) annual event and fundraiser, GLAAD Manhattan, was held this past week. Tons of local and national celebrities came out to support GLAAD’s mission of advancing positive portrayals of the LGBT community in the media. Who had the pleasure of walking the red carpet with the ever-so-fab Olympic skater Johnny Weir? No, not his BFF Lady Gaga, but his “Beauty Bear,” hairdresser Eric Alt. Usually hairdressers lurk in the wings, anxious to pounce on a flyaway or strand that tries to stray from the flock, but that wasn’t the case for Alt. Weir had him front and center through every photo op and bulb flash. You know you’re pretty special when you get to walk side-by-side down the red carpet with your client! How did Alt get Weir’s pouf primed and perfect for the gala? On Johnny’s damp hair, he used a few spritzes of volumizing spray to reach maximum velocity. Using his dryer and trusty Denman brush, Alt dried the middle section straight up, paying close attention to drying the sides flat to the scalp. He then used a generous amount of his very own ALT.Purify Dry Shampoo to give the hair some “grip.” After teasing the hair silly, he created a modified and modern French twist/Mohawk combo, a “Frawk” if you will, and busted out his strong hold hairspray and went to town. Weir also sports a stripe of color in the back that needed to be accentuated so Alt created a beautiful pale mauve (Wella Color Touch 10/0 with a few drops of a level 3 with a red-violet base) and made for certain this color was the accent point in the “Frawk” for those moments Weir needed to give his over-the-shoulder grin we love seeing time and time again.

Thursday's “That’s What She Said” Moment
A client had walked into our salon on one of its busiest days. As soon as she entered she pointed to me and asked extremely loudly, "You...You right there. I heard you give a fantastic blow job. Can you fit me in today?” I just looked back at her, smiled and said, "We don't do those here, but I'm sure I can provide you a fantastic blow dry."
