they don't need to be licensed in the state they go to because it is a reality show, and they are there for a week with no pay from the salon.
if you are a platform artist, you don't need to be licensed in every state you go to for shows, the hotel ballroom doesn't need to be licensed as a hair salon, etc. it is a temporary situation.
if one were to become a resident of another state, they would need to be licensed to practice hair in that state. and time isn't all that some states require, in some you will have to take exams depending on the state,as board laws are different across the country.
