Im in cosmotology school and we have been having a big debate on weather or not to lowlight with permanent color ? I know someone who is very loyal beth minardi fan and she says never to lowlight with permanent color. What about those people who are more than 25% gray or the people who cant use demis because they fade to fast. Redkin and paul mitchell are the 2 lines we have. Do you lowlight with permanent color?

hey there. i guess i would wonder WHY the naysayers say not to do it. I usually lowlight with semi/demi only because the lowlighters are usually the people that are darkening in winter and lightetning in summer, so this way by the time you are highlightiung heavy again, it will be easier to bleach the lowlights out. If this isnt te case however, i use permanent. I guess it is always specific to my client. if they are darker in winter/lighter in summer, or if they are a client that is always switching back and forth then - semi. as for grey, if you are lowlighting then you have other colours /levels in there and complete coverage wont be missed, so even with grey i would still be fine with semi/demi. hope this helps.

i agree with bella, and will add that when i use permanent color, i mix it with ten volume for deposit vs lift and deposit. but most often, i use shades eq for lowlights.
