Anyone know Prizm Shears??? Help!
Posted: Wednesday, November 03, 2004 9:06:58 PM

I'm looking for opinions on Prizm shears. I just bought a 6 inch pair, titanium coated, Japanese Steele with a tension screw and 1 year warranty. Anyone know of Prizm shears? What do you think of them?

Thanks!

If by Prism shears you are referring to the Prism series by Shear Technologies, then yes you made a great choice. This line of shears in thier  Shisato line is high quality Japanese made, (not labeled Japanese steel.. read made somewhere other than Japan) shear. This line also have thinners, texturizers and a chunker.

I am not aware of another Prism or Prizm. If you can get me a manufacturer or distributor I can get you a better eval. Being a member of a large network of sharpeners if I haven't seen it I can find someone that has.

I'm a scissor junkie ... still have every pair I've ever owned!

I've always purchased the very finest, and they last forever (almost), when properly taken care of.   I eventually "retire" them, before they are totally done.  That way I can have them in my collection ... and still useable, especially if I need a backup.

Interesting how the fashion has changed.  My first pairs were 4" and 4 1/2" ... when classic geometric cutting (Dorothy Hamill) was the thing.  Then 6" ... now 5 1/2".  Generally I like a slightly ergonomic design, but not too much.  I use a hold where my thumb doesn't really go into the finger hole, but rests on the edge.

My current brand is Fan Out (3 pair) ... but I've used Matsuzaki, Omega and Fuji.  Seems like the top Japanese craftsmen move around a bit ... so over the years, brands rise to the top of quality, or fall back. Generally a pair last me for at least 5-6 years, before they get bumped.

Bonika, they are beginner or home hair cutting shears. Fine, if you are a beginner, or home hair cutter.
