The Art of Highlighting: Ray Lights & Shadowing

Colorist Ruth Andolsen demonstrates the Ray Lights and Shadowing highlighting techniques. Ray Lights is a twist on the traditional balayage, but it’s less messy and creates subtle, natural, effortless color. It’s a particularly good technique for color-shy clients and provides dimensional color that’s easy to maintain. Shadowing is perfect for clients that have become overly-blond and want to go back to a more natural-looking shade; it introduces a blend of mid and low tones into the palette to provide a rich backdrop for blond highlights.
